22. Install A Farm Pond
	A farm pond can be both scenic and practical. A pond can capture runoff water, and it can provide water for livestock, household use, irrigation, fire fighting, and orchard spraying. It can also offer fishing, swimming, picnicking, ice skating, and wildlife habitat. You can create a farm pond by building a dam across an existing gully or low-lying area. The ideal topography is a wide, gently sloping basin with rather steep banks that come closely together at the dam site.
	The soil must contain enough clay to provide a watertight dam and a basin through which a minimum of water will seep. If there is not enough watertight soil for the entire dam, you may need to put a clay core in the center of the dam or install a pre-fabricated pond liner.
	For successful fish management, the general rule is that ponds should have a surface area of at least 1 acre and 10 to 12 feet of water in 25 percent of the pond basin.
